It’s the song that brings ultimate hope to so many … often in the midst of life’s most challenging moments. Amazingly, the song was written in mere minutes by MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard. In reality, those lyrics took a lifetime to craft.
Bart grows up in Greenville, Texas, where he experiences physical and mental abuse from his father, Arthur. When Arthur is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he finds redemption by embracing his faith and rediscovering his love for his son. Some years later, Bart's tough childhood and his relationship with his father becomes the inspiration he needs to write the hit song "I Can Only Imagine".
